Important Facebook Settings You Should Know

Do you have a Facebook account? If you do, how long do you spend each day on Facebook? Now, the last question, do you have a complete understanding about the Facebook settings? Or, maybe you did not do anything to the standard setting? If you did so, you better think twice.

Initially started as a network for college kids only, Facebook has now become the biggest social networking site in the world.

According to Facebook, at the moment they have 450.000.000 users. Approximately, 830.000+ people join Facebook every single day. About the number of minutes which Facebook user spends each day on Facebook, one spends a total of 55 minutes on Facebook each day.

Facebook, just like any other thing, has both positive side and negative side. As most of us already know, Facebook helps us connect and share with the people in our life. Apart from the positive side, Facebook also become a tool of Cyber crime (illegal activity committed on the internet).

This happens because the majority of Facebook users likely chose the suggested settings with no understanding what they were agreeing to. Doing so may give an opportunity for criminals to steal a person’s identity or personal data, such as photos and videos.

In relation with the problem stated above, this article suggests you to know deeper about Facebook settings.

1. Control Who Can See Your Profile (Privacy Settings > Profile Information)

In the profile information, you could change your privacy settings for the things you share, such as personal description, photos and videos.

    If you want to change the setting to a more private nature, do the following steps:

1) From your account page, move your mouse to the privacy settings menu at the third order and click.

2) A list of privacy setting will appear. Click “Profile Information” from the list of choices.

3) In the profile information page, you may change the setting of your information using the drop-down box on the right into a more personal one, i.e., from everyone into only friends. This step will ensure that only your friend on the network can see the information you post.

2. Remove Yourself from the Search Engines (Privacy Settings > Search)

In the privacy settings page, you may see “search” as the fourth option. By clicking the option, you could control who can see your search result on Facebook and in search engines.

    If you want to change the setting to a more private nature, do the following steps:

    1) From your privacy settings page, move your mouse to the search settings menu at the fourth order and click.

    2) Two options of search settings menu will appear. The options are Facebook search results and public search results.

    3) You may change the setting of your search using the drop-down box on the right into a more personal one for the Facebook search results. This step will ensure that only your friend on the network can see the information you post.

    4) You may change the setting of your public search results too by clicking the empty box on the right. This step will ensure that your profile cannot be seen on search engines.

3. Keep Your Friend List Private (Profile > Friends)

It would be better for you to turn off your friend list’s visibility to others. Nowadays, a lot of individuals who visit one’s profile and then selectively choose friends that are relevant for marketing and selling purposes, or other reasons.

    If you want to change the setting to a more private nature, do the following steps:

1) Click your profile page, then move your mouse to the friends box

2) Click the pencil icon in the Friends box on your profile. Then, uncheck the “Show Friend List to everyone” box. This step will ensure that non-friends who come to your profile will then not be able to see this information
