How to Keep a Promise

What do you feel when someone does not keep his/her word? Maybe you would be very offended. What if you are the one who cannot be trusted? It feels hurtful, right?

If you want to see everyone keep their promises, you must expect it from yourself. Start with small matters.

Remember what Albert Einstein has said: “Anyone who doesn’t take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted in large ones either.”

Here are several tips which might be able to help you keep your promises:

1. Know Your Limit

Before you make your promise to anyone or every one, you should know your limit. Ask to yourself, “Am I able to complete my promise?”, “Am I able to do these things?”

Be sure that you answer this honestly as your first step.

Know your limitations and be content with them. Too much ambition results in promotion to a job you cannot do ~ David Brent.

2. Ask for Help

It would be better for you to ask for help when you make your promises. Ask for the help in an indirect way if you need to.

You can say, “I’ll do this task, but I believe we will have a better result with a little bit of help from you all.”

Point taken; do not take the entire burden by yourself. You work as a team, right? Furthermore, a true friend knows the true meaning of sharing.

3. Walk the Talk

You should practice what you preach. Create a reminder or notes to make you remember about your promises. Please bear in mind this step would be the most vital step in meeting your promises.

4. Complete it… Beyond Expectation

Finally, complete your promise. Complete it beyond expectation if you can. In that way, you would gain more trust from your friends.
